BEWARE OF TOURIST TRAPS
IF YOU ARE TRAVELING TO A NEW PLACE THEN YOU MUST BEWARE OF TOURIST TRAPPERS!
Many tourist think that holding a map while traveling at far distances will save them from being misled. But there are many places those may not be mentioned in the maps but your guide insist to visit.
Basically, tourist trap is the process to encourage tourist to spend money. You must first know the value of product before buying. Shop keepers are even involved in tourist trap. You are unknown of the new city and your guide know it very well. For example; he takes you to a art gallery telling you that it is the most popular art gallery and has been awarded for its exclusive collection.
Probably, you begin to think that you are standing in the most uncommon place and to spent money is worth. But reality is inverse. The art gallery has a tie up with your guide. The more products you buy, the more share he earns!
There are many ways of tourist trapping. People actually spend more than what is required. The new strategies of shopping malls are working very well.
The products those shopping malls want to sell in the limelight are arranged at the entrance and exit. The way of exit takes you through the inner stores. When you advance towards exit you are surrounded by beautiful products. The strategy works here and you are trapped. You hangout again, surfing the products and spend more time. You are naturally encouraged to buy last product before exit.
Long tales of history
Historic places are more money making for guide. He narrates different tales of history and keeps you engaged for other trappers to trap you. You might be keen to click pictures of the places and ancient architecture but you are banned to do it. You find a noticeboard that may bore the text 'PHOTOGRAPHY PROHIBITED.' Yes, your guide will intimate you about that. On the contrary, you will find sellers who sell postcards and pictures of the same place. After visiting such an antique place you won't leave without buying pictures. Your guide has a share on your purchase.
Other tourist traps
Not every place you spend is a trap! But to know how things work, is much significant. The tourist traps differs from locations and depends on necessities. In India, foreigners are usually targeted to earn money. The most famous three wheeled 'Rickshaw' carries three passengers at a time. The rickshaw drivers charge foreigners three to four times more than the actual price. One must know about the rickshaw rates and per kilometer rates according to the electronic meter that counts distance.
Many restaurants world wide target tourist by phony claim that they are the hot spot for local cuisine. You are kept in the dark not realizing that even local public do not prefer to visit the restaurant. The food might be much better and delicious in other real restaurant. Unfortunately, you are tasting the worst food in the best mood.
Using websites and other media, it is very important to find correct information of the places before travel. A guide must give you the correct information of the place but he should not insist you to buy something from a particular store. We are not asking you to monitor every situation and grantee yourself that every thing around you is a trap. But only knowing key things are important. Before travel you must communicate with your guide well. Ask him to mail you the journey details. Make sure that he is not adding anything else after having reached to the place. Whatever details he send must be cross checked with the official websites and search about tourist traps in particular location.
