Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or as an end in itself. The term meditation refers to a broad variety of practices that includes techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy or life force and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity and forgiveness.
A particularly ambitious form of meditation aims at effortlessly sustained single-pointed concentration single-pointed analysis, meant to enable its practitioner to enjoy an indestructible sense of well-being while engaging in any life activity.
Meditation is often used to clear the mind and ease many health issues, such as high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. The Tibetan word for meditation "Gom" means "to become familiar with one's Self" and has the strong implication of training the mind to be familiar with states that are beneficial: concentration, compassion, correct understanding, patience, humility, perseverance, etc
The history of meditation is intimately bound up with the religious context within which it was practiced. Even in prehistoric times civilizations used repetitive, rhythmic chants and offerings to appease the gods. Some authors have even suggested the hypothesis that the emergence of the capacity for focused attention, an element of many methods of meditation, may have contributed to the final phases of human biological evolution. Some of the earliest references to meditation are found in the Hindu Vedas.
Western Christian meditation contrasts with most other approaches in that it does not involve the repetition of any phrase or action and requires no specific posture. Western Christian meditation progressed from the 6th century.
Science Of Meditation
Meditation has been practiced within religious traditions since ancient times, especially within monastic centers. These days there also exist many secular programs in the West including mindfulness-based programs. Today mindfulness-based meditative practices have become popular within the Western medical and psychological community, due mainly to the observable, positive impact such processes have on patients suffering from stress-related health conditions.
For instance, one study by Richard Davidson and Jon Kabat-Zinn showed that eight weeks of mindfulness-based meditation produced significant increases in left-sided anterior brain activity, which is associated with positive emotional states. Positive emotion may be a skill which can be achieved with training similar to learning to ride a bike or play the piano.
Since the 1950s hundreds of studies on meditation have been conducted, though many of the early studies were flawed and thus yielded unreliable results. More recent reviews have pointed out many of these flaws with the hope of guiding current research into a more fruitful path. More reports assessed that further research needs to be directed towards the theoretical grounding and definition of meditation.
In Sanskrit language the word yoga means union or addition of two or more things. Yoga basics help one in understanding the different forms of asana and postures which are beneficial for your health and helps in your spiritual and mental development. The morning is one of the best times to exercise simply because of the energy it will give you for the rest of your day. Research on the processes and effects of meditation is a growing sub-field of neurological research. Modern scientific techniques and instruments, such as fMRI and EEG, have been used to see what happens in the body of people when they meditate, and how their bodies and brain change after meditating regularly.
These studies have shown substantial bodily changes as a consequence of regular meditative practice.

Having patience is always important. The person who lack this quality is always frustrated and angry. 'Yamas' tells us to be kind. Unkind people loose self respect and spoil their social life. Again the frustration captures your mind. It also says, anger is like a fire in your own house which burns everything.
Special Diet For Yoga Performers
We usually spoil our food stuffs before eating them. We have come to like fried food. In frying the food not only loses its vitamins and other essential nutrients, but it also becomes hard to digest. We consume too much of carbohydrates when we eat a lot of wheat, rice, potatoes, sugar, etc. Usually green leafy vegetables, fruits and other raw foods are missing from our diet.
These food provide necessary vitamins and salts. Vegetables like tomato, carrot, cucumber, cabbage, onion, salad, ginger and radish can be eaten raw. Other vegetables, when cooked, should never be fried. They should be first washed, then cut in big chunks and cooked in steam or boiled. Butter or cream can be added only after boiling or steaming the vegetables.
The following types of food items can be included in the yogic diet, which not only help the body to remain strong and active but lead one to high mental and spiritual attainments: (1) All nuts and fruits, (2) all kinds of vegetables and edible green leaves, (3) all kinds of pulses, (4) milk, curd, butter milk, (5) dates; honey and jaggery, (6) wheat, rice etc., (7) sprouted pulses and cereals.
