World Of Political Correctness
by - Rakesh Ramchandran
Universalism, Total Liberalism, Multiculturalism, Multi Ethnicity….etc; some of the words that shape our understanding of the world and within ourselves. Leaders and the general class of public are geared towards these and champion these as the front runners of being human. From tolerance to acceptance is the far-fetched idea of our world. Are we missing something in this journey? A question unasked since everyone is in the race of being the champion of the idea.
In the journey we often to fail to neglect who we are truly and what make us human. Being simplistic and liberal and not being classical is being idealized as the necessity so that everyone can understand. Yes it is required that everyone can understand but are we not in that process losing those classics which made ourselves human at one point of time in history.
Everyone is in pursuit of happiness and machines are greater than ever in number and in this run we are failing to understand one important idea that, machines as such cannot given us happiness.
As Marx said ....
Private property has made us so stupid and partial that an object is only ours when we have it, when
it exists for us as capital ... Thus all the physical and intellectual senses have been replaced by ... the sense of having.
To have more has become more human and what is human is now rubbished as rules which need to be broken.
Our entire race towards multiculturalism is now geared towards destroying our own culture by neglecting them and then thinking that we can replace them with some virtual culture or a mixture of cultures. Every land has produced culture and that culture is unique to that land. Today being unique is the most difficult thing to achieve since we are so intertwined in the wobbles of information. To be unique is to be more humane.
How are we to be tolerant of others when we forget ourselves as to what we are?
What differentiates humans from animals are ethics or in our neo-liberal world called as classics. Our needs are endless and every pursuit of ours to a greater satiety is throwing us to a greater hunger. Arts and Philosophy once esteemed as the quintessence of human achievements are left to die and replaced by the words of utilitarian theories and universalism. As humans we are losing the identities that made us once humans and replacing them with identities which are just purely existent in the virtual worlds of our minds.
A kid or an adult of today is pressured to be like others otherwise he is perceived as having a nerve running wrong somewhere.
We believe that every culture should lose the values which made it a culture and embrace other values so that everyone can have everything. A nice idea and sounds wonderful and yummy but we fail to understand one fact that being unique is what distinct humans from animals and that is what made our identity. A simple reasoning that every human has a unique face can make us brood over this very fact of nature. Nature did not create humans to be link of toddlers who are identical but to be men who are unique and can mark their identity. A collective identity of unique men is what a culture is.
When we in pursuit of being political correct neglect our own identities we are creating a generation who have no identity of their own. We are creating generations who are now in pursuit of identity which was given to us automatically by our forefathers.
Many of us when we see these generations realize how futile was our attempt to remove the identities which made us once. We need to be tolerant of others which is of course is being humane however that should never make us neglect our own ethos and culture so that we can accept the other party. If we appreciate the eclat of our culture then we can understand the eclat of others.
