A Pleasant Day By The Riverside
By Harsha Pandit, Bangalore, India
After a long time I spent one morning by the riverside. As I was on vacation with my friends, we were camping at the countryside area. I awoke early, by the time of sunrise. What a peaceful morning it was! There were no noise and bustle of the city; no pollution either. The nature was quite and refreshing. I was excited to see the rising sun which seemed like a orange ball in the sky. Gradually, the sun turned brighter with spectacular glint on the surface of the sky. I had seen many landscapes in the paintings, but this one was for real and truly amazing.
The cool river breeze was exhilarating as I sat by the riverside. The revitalizing smell of the wet sand under my bare feet had done enough to ease my anxiety. The sound of the flowing water was cheerful and enchanting. After a long time I was inhaling the fresh country air.
A few birds sang the melodious song of nature. The river flowed on jauntily, while the sky like a canopy looked at it’s cloudless reflection down below. I could see the art of God, the lavishly decorated spectrum of nature. The colors of nature were enormously beautiful as I could sense the soft touch of flowers and textures of branches and stem. The curly roots were exposed to air and its ends buried in the soil. The air blew stronger, shaking the branches of the tree, but none of the bird flew away. They were peacefully swinging on the branches, and I wondered how pleasant their life could be? Surely, they dwell in the heart of nature. I could see the grass dancing with the wind, and the flowers seemed smiling at me.
There were few local children who dived in the water and swam to the end. They were villagers, but their cheering smiles and happiness showed that they were living their life to the fullest of their enthusiasm. I sat on the soft bed of sand looking at the group of birds those aligned themselves on the edge of the bank to quench their thirst. As I walked near them, they flew away. How should I tell them I wasn't going to harm them.
I sat on the river bank and dipped my feet. The water was playful; jumping upon the stones it created small waves. I could sense the tickling on my feet and I splashed it swinging my legs to and fro. I splashed the water with my hands and threw it above my head, as high as I could see it forming round shape like glittering diamonds those suddenly came down and struck my face delicately. The joyful droplets those splashed on my face rejoiced me like never before. The gentle lap of waves tripping over the rocks; the blue sky textured with white clouds to it’s horizon, and the sound of flowing water was unforgettable. I hadn't realized how many mornings I had missed until now, but I would love to live there forever – In the arms of nature!
